The Houston Comets Return With a New H and a Basketball Comet

The Houston Comets revealed their new logos on 29 October 2026. The team, which won the first four WNBA championships between 1997 and 2000 and folded in 2008, returns for the 2027 season after owner Tilman Fertitta bought the Connecticut Sun in May 2026 and moved the franchise to Houston.
What the logos look like
The primary logo shows a red basketball comet streaking across a blue “H” for H-town. The H tilts upward, and four diamond-shaped stars stand for the four championships: three in silver and one in white for the Lone Star State. Two secondary logos send the comet through the O’s in “Houston” and “Comets”, a nod to the original wordmarks.
The colours are the navy, red and silver of the title years. All three logos use a lowercase “t”, matching the retro rebrand of the Houston Rockets, which Fertitta also owns, earlier in 2026. The Comets will play at the Rockets’ arena, Toyota Center.
Why they couldn’t just bring back the old logo
According to USA TODAY, league rules don’t allow an old design to come back as a primary logo, so the team updated its old secondary “H” instead. “The logos, they’re a memory,” said Jose Lopez, the Comets’ senior creative director, who helped design them.
It is a useful example of designing nostalgia without copying it: the colours and the H carry the memory, while the shapes are new. Uniforms, court and mascot will be revealed later in the off-season.
